Mitsubishi is talking about closing its Normal, IL plant. (production 58,188 units | capacity 240,000 units) I am posting this because I haven’t seen it elsewhere. I am under the belief that the only reason Mitsubishi has stayed in the U.S. market is because they have a U.S. plant. For years I was under the belief that they should have utilized this plant to make a mini-pick-up version of the Outlander Sport [ASX / RVR ], but now I think it would be too late to jump into the game with the new Chevrolet Colorado out and Hyundai planning a mini-ute. Plus the Outlander Sport is starting to get dated.

Wow, that would be a pretty big deal to close that plant.

“I hear you have a plant you don’t know what to do with. Would you like to hear my offer? Wait! Where are you going? Don’t you at least want to hear it?”

That’s a shame. Oh well, at least used Mirages will depreciate even more.

I hope so. Fuck ‘em. If they want to kill a bunch of American jobs and stay in the U.S. They can fuck right off.

I’m guessing that the first LeMons appearance is before 2020.

Oh! Hyundai comes in out of left field and buys up Mitsubishi! Hyundai says they plan for Mitsubishi “to become an all electric brand aimed at bringing electric vehicles to the masses.” Is the world ready for a value oriented Tesla-fighting brand? Already plans for the electric EVO have been leaked detailing the new platform from other recent Hyundai acquisition and new performance division, Lotus.

Mitsubishi has stayed in the U.S. market is because they have a U.S. plant.
I dunno. Does all of Mitsubishi benefit from one arm of it having manufacturing in the USA?
Might have been a strategic move for other Mitsu divisions. Lose money in motors to make money in electronics and comfort.

It seems the plant was really profitable in the past when it was a joint plant with Chrysler, but now it is a different story. I never thought of the cars as advertising for their air conditioners, etc.

I actually wouldn’t mind that. A Lotus made out of unkillable Hyundai parts and with a lower price range? I’m in.

In that case, I’m buying one to supplement the Cutlass.

It’ll make a super collectible car because they would all be found in a tree since it unsersteered so badly and no one could handle it

MF chassis? madness. This isn’t Nissan.

No, I meant from a corporate standpoint. As in “You get tax breaks for manufacturing in the USA” so they built their cars here for the tax breaks in each other division.

Such a shame that Mitsu as a brand in the US is almost dead. I remember in the late ‘90s they were a strong brand.
